The Pyramid of Success
Block 1: Industriousness
"There is no substitute for work. Worthwhile results come from hard work and careful planning."
You have to work for yourself and work hard. When you do this good things will come your way. However, being lazy and waiting the last minute has its consequences.
Block 2: Enthusiasm
"It is the engine that powers all blocks of the Pyramid. It is why I chose Industriousness and Enthusiasm as the cornerstones of my Pyramid of Success. It is where everything begins."
Enthusiasm is one of the most important things you will need to be in order to be successful in life. Everything you do will require you to feel enthusiastic about it one way or another. Once you feel enthusiastic, you will also have all the other emotions as well. When you are enthusiastic you are ready to do whatever you have to do. Enthusiasm is what strives a person to complete their goals and have a fun time doing it. Enthusiasm is also very useful when you play a sport or try anything that is competitive because you will be eager to go out there and give it your best shot. An example of enthusiasm is if your teacher says that there will be a test next class. If you are enthusiastic and want to take it, you will study eagerly and when it comes to the test you will pass because you are looking forward to it and you studied.
Block 3: Friendship
"Comes from mutual esteem, respect and devotion. Like marriage it must not be taken for granted but requires a joint effort."
To be successful in life, you need to be acquainted with other people. The road will be difficult alone, which is why you need friendship. If you start to befriend people who do not have goals for themselves then it is likely that they will not be helpful to you or they will bring you down. You have to befriend people who have goals for themselves because if you hang out with people who want to be successful, they could influence you to do better. Also, when you have friends, they might be able to hook you up with certain things. If you want to get a job, one of your friends might know someone who is hiring. If you need help on an assignment, you can depend on a friend.
Block 4: Loyalty
"To yourself and to all those depending upon you. Keep your self-respect."
To be successful in life, you need to be a loyal human being. This means you need to be loyal to yourself as well as those around you. When you do this, you will feel more confident and other people will trust you more.A great example of being loyal is a dog, a dog is always loyal to his owner and his family. Another example of being loyal is when you are in a relationship with someone. You have to be commited to that person only and don't do anything to disrespect them. Another example of this is when a friend asks you to back them up in a certain situation and you have to be down for your homies and always have their back. But, you should always check in with your friends before you decide to do something for them because what you might believe they want might not actually be the thing they wanted. One way to be loyal to yourself is by not doing anything that will damage your body such as smoking, drinking, doing drugs, or getting a tattoo.
Block 5: Cooperation
"With all levels of your co-workers. Listen if you want to be heard. Be interested in finding the best way, not in having your own way. "
When you want to be successful, you will work with other people along the way so you need to be cooperative. One of the reasons that cooperation is a good trait to develop is because in the work place, lots of cooperation is going to be neccessary to be effective in the work place. Cooperation skills can be developed in school when you cooperate with the other students to complete a group assignment. Another example of cooperation is when you are playing a sport. Teamwork is all about cooperation when you are trying to win.
Block 6: Ambition (For noble goals)
To be ambitious means to have a strong desire to do something. Ambition requires determination and hard work. This is a important block in the pyramid of success because when if you don't have ambition then it is not likely you will complete any goals. An example of where ambition would be essential is when you want to get into your dream school. Hundreds of thousands of students compete to get into one certain school and it is competitive because everyone wants to strive to enter the same school so you must have ambition to tell you that you will make it into that school and you have to work hard for what you really want in life. Ambition can also be used in small situations. Another example of where you might see ambition is in a sport game. Everyone wants to win and the winner would most likely be the one who strives for first.
Block 7: Self-Control
"Practice self-discipline and keep emotions under control. Good judgement and common sense are essential."

You need to keep your emotions to yourself and not let anyone judge you. When you have self control it means that you are able to do your work or achieve a goal without letting your emotions play a role in your accomplishments because they can bring you down. Self control is very necessary because it is unprofessional to let your emotions out when you are conducting business. An example of this can be when you are at school making a presentation. You have to remember that you have to do the best you can and not emotions play a role in your presentation because if you get mad a t a comment or react on it based on emotion it will make you look bad. You have to have control over yourself because if you don't, you won't go far in life.
Block 8: Alertness
"Be observing constantly. Stay open-minded. Be eager to learn and improve."
To be alert means to always need to be ready for whatever life throws at you. You always have to be alert and on your toes ready to go. If you are never alert then you will not be prepared when the situation calls for it. An example of when alertness can play a role is when you are trying to see who is fake and who is not when making friends. If you can't catch it when they show they are fake and you aren't aware to know you will be setting yourself up. Another example of alertness is when there is something bad that's about to happen like a car accident. You have to be aware of everything happening around you to be safe.

Block 9: Initiative
"Cultivate the ability to make decisions and think alone. Do not be afraid of failure, but learn from it."
This means to make decisions that you feel are right. Don't be afraid of making mistakes; learn from them. That is what the most successful people do.An example of this is if you try out for a sport in school. If you join you can't just leave whenever you want, you need to see it out to the end, win or lose. Having initiative is an important skill to develop because it is what will allow you to have the edge on others who might compete against you for the same achievement. Another example where you might need to show initiative is when you go on a protest or strike. You need to make sure the audience gets your message and knows what you're talking about. You have to fight for change and what you believe in.
Block 10: Intentness
"Set a realistic goal. Concentrate on its achievement by resisting all temptations and being determined and persistent."
This means that you need to be determined to be a hard worker and never procrastinate. You need to set lifetime goals and be compelled to complete them. When you have your mind set on a specific objective you want to accomplish. This is an important building block on the pyramid block of success. An example where this building block would be used would be for a competitive player. They will have their mind set on just winning. But this skill should not be exaggerated and you shouldn't be selfish. You should have your mind set on your goals but you shouldn't bring others down to accomplish yours.
Block 12: Adaptability (to any situation)
This is an important building block because you need to keep old friendships active because you don't know when you might need some help or a favor to call. Adaptability means to be able to fit in into any situation at any given moment. When you do this, you will be more friendly with others.
Block 13: Condition
"Mental-Moral-Physical. Rest, exercise and diet must be considered. Moderation must be practiced. Dissipation must be eliminated."
This is important because you need to consider when your body is getting exhausted . In this case you need some rest. However, it is also important to exercise because it is good for your mental and physical mental health. Where that means waking up at a certain time everyday or doing all your chores without being asked. This is a important skill to learn because when you are conditioned you don't have to really think about the thing you are conditioned to do. An example of this can be, doing your homework as soon as you get home. Being conditioned will keep you on track because it is almost like an automatic response to do whatever you are conditioned to do.
Block 14: Skill
"A knowledge of and the ability to properly and quickly execute the fundamentals. Be prepared and cover every little detail."
You need skill to be good at whatever you want in life. To do this you need to practice, practice, practice. When you develop skill you start to gain an advantage over others in a certain field due to the skills giving you the upper hand with comparison to the rest of the competition. An example of this is when you are taking a test. When you have studied and learned the skill, you will have an advantage on the test. Another example of this is when playing a sport. The one who has learned the skill the most is most likely the one who has practiced more.
Block 15: Team Spirit
"A genuine consideration for others. An eagerness to sacrifice personal interests of glory for the welfare of all."
Team spirit is important because it is needed if you want to succeed. An example of team spirit is when you are playing a sport in school. If you want to show team spirit, you should be the one cheering the team up and helping them to improve. Another example is you putting yourself before the team so everyone can go up. This is a selfless act which will gain you respect from others. Being selfless for the team is one of the strongest actions you can act out that will earn you respect from the rest of the team.Team spirit means to motivate others to do well.
Block 16: Honesty (in thought and action)
"Honesty is the best policy." (Ben Franklin)
Honesty is important because you need it to be trusted by your peers. To be honest means to tell the truth at all time. This does not mean to be mean to everyone and say all the things that come to mind. You should be honest when you are asked for your opinion. If you see someone do something bad, you should do what's right and be honest about what happened. Don't be a liar or else you will be caught and no one will trust you.
Block 17: Resourcefulness (proper judgment)
“Make the most out of what you have.” (Anonymous)
"If you have a dream, if you have something you've always wanted to do, look within yourself because that is where resourcefulness resides; and go for it. (Jennifer Witterick)
Resourcefulness means that you have to make most of what you have. You have to shoot for the stars and give it all you got. This skill is one that is sometimes learned at a young age when some people have to grow up with minimum resources. Someone who is resourceful doesn't let anything go to waste. An example of being resourceful is when you use your time properly and don't waste it. When you are resourceful you are smart with the decisions you make.
Block 19: Confidence
"Through preparation breeds confidence" Gerald Bell in
"The Carolina Way"
You need confidence to be and do your best at any given situation. You also need to be motivated and give good positive self talk. When you are confident, you feel certain about something. Confidence is something really looked for in jobs that require speeches or anything that is professional. Confidence is when you believe in yourself and over come your fear.

Block 21: Fight (determined effort)
This is important because when things get rough, you must have that fight in you. This is that determined effort and that mamba mentality. When I say fight as one of the blocks I don't mean it in the sense of fighting with someone to cause physical harm but to put on a challenge to prove or show you point on something. Another way that the word fight could be seen as is when you are going through a rough time but you have to fight through it and get better. An example of this is a lawyer because they fight for their clients to win.
Block 22: Competitive Greatness
" Be at your best when your best is needed. Enjoyment of a difficult challenge."
I think this one isn't really needed since its two words and also this one can go into others such as fight, confidence, poise, etc. However, beyond that this means to always try your best when you need to try your best. It's as simple as that. Always face a certain challenge head on. You can't be successful by constantly giving up again and again. There is a certain enjoyment you need to have to achieve greatness. Always put your foot on the gas and never look back. You need to strive to be the best.
Block 23: Integrity (purity of intention)
Integrity means to have the will and the power to pursue your goals. This also means to not give up. When you have integrity you have self moral principals and are an honest person. Integrity means you have set standards for yourself and what to keep a clean image of yourself. If no one had integrity then they would have no real respect themselves An example of this could be anyone.
Block 24: Faith (through prayer)
Believe and Achieve. Positive belief.
Faith means that you have to believe you can do something in order to achieve it. You have to only think positive thoughts so that it can become true. To have faith means to have confidence in someone or something. Having faith is an example of having trust. When you are faithful you don't have any doubts. The reason why faith is important is because without it no one will be successful. If no one had faith in themselves, the world wouldn't be the same. With faith a person could have the confidence to go after a certain career in life.
Block 25: Patience (good things take time)
To have patience you have to have the ability to wait patiently for long periods of time. This is not something that can be taught. You need to learn this on your own. Success takes time.
